From an Idea to Drawings: Planning a Two-Storey Home in Queensland
A home begins long before construction. For one Queensland client, PTH supplied architectural and engineering drawings for a proposed two-storey house, helping move an idea into a more defined design and documentation stage.

Proposed exterior and selected documentation details, edited for presentation. Design and documentation stage — unbuilt project.
A modern home shaped around family
The client wanted a modern two-storey home with a clear purpose for each level. The ground floor would be his own living space, while the upper level would accommodate his son’s family when they came to visit. The brief brought together everyday independence and space for family time.
The design developed through many consultations and a shared effort between PTH and the client. Together, we worked through how he wanted the home to function, from its orientation and room arrangement to the widths of doors and windows and the placement of toilets and bathrooms. Each discussion helped refine the design around his preferences, everyday needs and time with family.
The work PTH supplied
PTH supplied architectural and engineering drawings for the proposed home. The architectural drawing package included ground- and first-floor plans, a roof plan, elevations, a section, a window and door schedule, and construction details.
This stage helps describe the proposed home more clearly for the next conversations about the site, approvals and construction. The images here show selected excerpts rather than the complete drawing package.
The planning journey
As the client worked through the development application process, finding a suitable builder in his part of Queensland proved challenging. His circumstances later changed, and the planned home did not proceed to construction.
The project remains an example of the design and documentation work supplied. It is presented at that stage, rather than as a completed house or a construction outcome.
A useful starting point for your own project
If you are considering a similar home, explore local builder availability early alongside your design, site requirements and overall budget. A proposed house design is one part of the journey; understanding who will carry out the local work helps you plan the next steps.
Bring PTH your ideas, location, intended use and budget. We can discuss the design and documentation support appropriate to your project, with the agreed scope clearly set out in your quotation.
